My Story
-
Since my teenage years, I have harbored a deep passion for building and construction. This deep love for the craft I inherited from my father. Among other things, was a self-employed remodeler and retired as a building inspector and US Navy Reserves Chief Petty Officer for the SEABEES (Construction Battalion). I spent a lot of Saturdays and parts of school vacation working alongside my father. As a senior in, high school, I worked with him part time days as my work-study program. The year following high school graduation, I moved to Phoenix, AZ and studied electronics.
I returned to the Boston area after getting my degree and went back to work for my father while I was searching for a job that would capitalize on my recent degree. During this period, my father took on the role of Building Inspector in Cohasset, Massachusetts. This transition left the operation of the company to my brother and me. We continued to keep the business going until I landed a position in a high-tech company the following year, repairing industrial x-ray equipment.
I remained active in remodeling, dedicating weekends and vacation time to my passion. It was during this period that I independently studied for and successfully passed the Massachusetts Building Construction Supervisor license exam on my first attempt. While working in the high-tech sector in the early to mid 1990s, I completed two extensive framing projects, while maintaining my regular job. For each project, I took a two-week vacation; one involved framing a second floor addition that was finished and weatherproofed within that timeframe, and the other was a two-story framing endeavor completed within the allotted two weeks.
In 2001, I returned to the trades and in the fall of that year purchased a building lot and began construction on a 4000-square foot home in Avon, Massachusetts. In 2003 I was presented an opportunity for even bigger projects. I accepted a position as an assistant construction manager for JK Scanlan, Falmouth MA,. The first project in this role was a 200-unit condominium project, Turtle Crossing, in Braintree MA. I was actively involved in the daily construction activities, and by the project's conclusion, I had been elevated to the role of construction manager. In this position, I managed the punch lists to ensure swift unit turnovers as new homeowners settled into their residences. My promotion to Construction Manager led me to oversee various projects including a complete makeover at Roche Bros Supermarket in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, a Drug Enforcement Agency building in New Hampshire, a NICU unit at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth Massachusetts, as well as the Trade Winds Condominiums on Craigsville Beach in Cape Cod.
When the Trade Winds project came to a halt in 2008 due to sales and economic challenges, I re-entered the high-tech industry. However, my dedication to construction never waned. I continued to refine my skills through home remodeling projects in my spare time. I have worked on multiple homes, completing pre-sale repairs and renovations to aid homeowners in achieving quick, top-dollar sales.
In 2014 I earned a Bachelors of Science in Business Management at Boston University.
In 2017, I relocated to New Hampshire and undertook the remodeling of our 1970s vintage home in Barrington, New Hampshire. The renovation included a beautifully appointed new kitchen and guest bathroom. Additionally, I re-roofed the house, incorporating solar racking to avoid the need for lifting shingles when installing brackets. I installed a 26 KW solar array, and then installed electric air-to-water heat pumps and underfloor radiant heating. We now enjoy the comfort of radiant floor heating and pay nothing for heat or electricity.
Another project was flipping a home in 2020 with my father, generating a 30% ROI in about 2 years. That project included removal of a ceiling in the kitchen to provide a beautiful cathedral ceiling with reclaimed timbers for ceiling ties. A spectacular custom stairway that removed a steep set of stairs and replaced it with a modern, comfortable 7”/11’” tread with wrought iron balusters giving it an amazing custom look. A new bathroom with shiplap walls, a pebble tiled floor in the shower and first floor laundry on a built-in pedestal for ease of use. This house had multiple offers above asking price in just a few days.
In 2024, I am now back as a full-time remodeler and can bring my fine craftsmanship and attention to detail to your home.
